TYPES OF CARP REELS

Even in carp reels there are different types of reels from which different people choose. It is a very simple mechanism of segregation. You will normally find out that there are two types of reels those anglers (British carp catchers) use and the baitrunner reel. One is the fixed spool one clutch reel and the other is the bait runner two clutch reels.

Fixed spool reel- the fixed spool reel is one setup having the clutch set just below the breaking strain of the line, with potential problems. Supposedly a carp was to take your bait and was to make a run for it then probably the line could get cut which may lead to one or more problems. Or also the rod by itself could be pulled due to the heavy mass of the carp and then it could result in you getting pulled too. If you are aware of the bite initially and are ready to pull, then this reel could be very appropriate.

Baitrunner reel- this two clutch carp reel is the most commonly used one since it gives excellent grip and double force. Your normal (first) clutch is set up to match the breaking strain of the carp fishing tackle line. With this clutch engaged you cast your carp bait out and set your rod on a rod rest or pod. When you are happy with the position of your bait, you then engage the lighter (second) clutch called the baitrunner.

Therefore for the success of catching the carp and also being without hurt, the baitrunner is preferred but for traditional carp catchers, fixed spool is their anthem.
